North Eastern Thailand

By Owen Jones

I met my wife whilst on holiday in Pattaya, which is around 45 minutes south of the new international airport by taxi and the airport is around halfway to Bangkok. I met her on the first day I arrived on a double date with a friend who was already there. Within a couple of weeks she took me back to meet her family in what I later found to be north-eastern Thailand.

Isaan is called north-eastern Thailand too, which is actually confusing because where we are is further north but not so far east. Anyway, most people who call Isaan the north east live in Bangkok and Pattaya, the two big hang-outs for foreigners (called farang or falang in Thai), and we are all north-east from there.

A glance at the map and you will see what I mean. If you travel north out of Bangkok, eventually you will come to Phitchit, which is formally the beginning of the north and the northern people as they call themselves.

Then comes Phitsanulok, at one time a capital of Thailand. A further 40 kilometres north is Sukhotai and Sri Satchenali, Thailand's first capital and the spiritual home of Thailand. The original city is still there, uninhabited and mostly restored.

I live in the next province to the east known as Uttaradit, which borders on Laos to the east and the old mountain kingdom of Nan to the north. About 10% of the populace of Nan are of the various Hill Tribes. One of these, the Mlabri, are nomadic hunter gatherers who live in temporary shelters fashioned from branches and leaves. Until very recently, they were living a stone-age existence and their language had never been heard by Westerners before 1978 as far as we know.

This is 250 km north-east from where I live. Sukhotai is about 30 km east. Such a lot of difference within 300 km. This region was part of the old kingdom of Lanna, which means ' a million rice fields' or even 'millions of rice fields'. Phichai or Fort Phichai, 12 km away, used to be the capital of Uttaradit province. Phraya Phichai Dap Hak (Phichai of the two-handed swords) fought here in the late 18th Century. He is Thailand's most respected and well-known warrior.

Anyway, I live in among all this lot. Unfortunately, I do not speak Thai well enough for anyone to give details of it to me and nobody that I know speaks English well enough to do it either. Even my wife. I wish I knew more about this fascinating place where very very few foreigners ever come.

There are five of us here at the moment in a 20 km radius. An English teacher, a Canadian teacher, a retired Dutchman and a retired Englishman and me. Often there is an Irishman and another Canadian, but they have gone home for a while. I normally do not see a foreigner or hold a detailed conversation for weeks on end. And I love it here.

Hand-held Auto Navigation Systems

By Owen Jones

It seems that all new trucks and cars have an auto navigation system these days. However, there are a few different types of auto navigation system, so if you want one as well, you have to know which system is best for you. There are stand alone, factory installed systems, units that are added to a car later, portable systems and hand-held systems.

Some of these set-ups offer more functionality than others, but you have to be cagey of an auto navigation system that supplies features that you will never use. These models are usually for the geeks. That does not mean that others can not use them, but they may be bewildering for the average driver.

If you are looking for a pretty cheap, yet versatile auto navigation system, then the hand-held or laptop models are probably for you. Hand-held auto navigation system can be used for other purposes of course, you can take it hiking, cycling or yachting. In this manner, an active person can get a lot more value from a GPS sat nav system.

Some people simply cannot bear to think that they are lost and vulnerable, especially if they have children with them. This is a fairly illogical fear, but still a fear that people have nevertheless. Having a hand-held auto navigation system can remove this dread even if your car has broken down or run out of petrol and you have to walk to the nearest garage.

Some hand-held auto navigation systems even have a facility for making an emergency phone call to the nearest garage, although this call probably goes to the garage that bid the most money for that privilege a bit like the way that Google premium advertising slots work. Still, it will get you out of a difficult spot, especially if you are stuck at night, which is the most terrifying time of all.

Hand-held auto navigation systems are the cheapest of all the sat nav systems, so they would make superlative gifts for drivers that you care about. Women in particular would be grateful for receiving one.

If you do want to get yourself or anyone else a hand-held auto navigation system, make sure that it has mapping facilities as some of them do not. Some of these units either speak or map, so be on the look out for that.

If you own a laptop or palm computer, you could get an even more beneficial deal on an auto navigation system, because you would just need to buy a kit to convert the signals and software to run it. There are several packages like that on the market and the beauty of a laptop is that its screen is larger.

At the other extreme, quite a few mobile phone companies also offer GPS auto navigation systems on their mobiles. Nokia, for example, has a very comprehensive range of maps for auto navigation systems.

Some Helpful Info For Travellers

By Harriette Rhodehamel

Tons of people go travelling around the word in their lifetime. If you're planning on going travelling then here's some stuff to help you have a good travelling experience.

Going travelling means we need to take some valuable stuff with us such as a passport and credit cards but losing those is a horrible experience.

One idea is to photocopy these items so you have some records of them just incase you were to lose them.

One thing that experienced travellers do is to spread their valuable items among their luggage so that they're not all in one place. It's better to lose one valuable item than all of them.

What most travellers forget to do is to carry a first aid kit with them. It's not nice to cut yourself in a foreign country where you don't speak the language so being able to bandage a little cut up by yourself is helpful.

Try to go to countries in the right seasons. There's no point going to a tropical country during the rainy season because you wont be able to go outside.

Don't forget to pack the correct clothing for the country you're travelling to. Travelling to somewhere like Dubai with woolly jumpers and thick socks just wont work.

An important tip to remember that the majority of travellers don't do is to write down all the things they need to remember about. I.e valuable items, things to do, things not to forget etc. Because travelling can be quite fast paced it's easy to forget stuff.

Something you really need to realise is that all countries have pick pockets that look for tourists so make sure you padlock your rucksack and luggage and don't have anything worth stealing on show.

And lastly a very important tip is to always pack comfortable shoes. Travelling means lots of walking and blisters will occur. So comfortable shoes are important.

Take note of these tips and you'll have a great travelling experience.

How for packing light

By Curt Ennis

There are endless benefits to travelling light. It is a more hassle free way of travelling that gives you much more flexibility in that you aren't constantly having to find places to securely store your luggage, and you can just hop onto any form of transport. Security is another big one, because you are much less likely to have your things stolen from you if they are on you all the time. You can even save money by not having to tip concierge staff, or pay for storage.

Many worry that packing lightly will mean that you are left in the lurch when you discover you need something that you haven't brought with you. To this I say that it is pleasantly surprising just how little you need when you are travelling, no matter for what purpose. The first thing you need to do is to write a check list. List the things you think you really need, and then go over and over it crossing things off that, on reflection, you can do without. It will come as a surprise how small the list gets.

Once you have decided on what you absolutely need, then you can work on finding lighter alternatives to the things you already have. If you really need to take shampoo with you, then make sure it's a small bottle that only contains the amount you need. Or get eh paperback version of the book you are reading.

One way to make your bag feel lighter, though maybe not make it lighter, is to get a decent bag. If you get a small bag that has lots of compartments then you can more easily access a wider variety of things when you need them. It is vital that the straps evenly distribute the weight across your back.

In this last bit, I will suggest some of those items you really don't need. Firstly, toiletries are not necessary. Most accommodation provides them, and if they do not there are always shops you can buy them from. Also, you can save weight by packing a small amount of clothes, and taking advantage of clothes washing facilities.

Sports Car Racing Hire - Racing Safely

By Owen Jones

Do you like speed? If you are into speed for fun, sport or recreation, perhaps you should try amateur sports car racing. You can charter racing cars by the hour or by the number of circuits at most racing tracks. Sports car racing is a sport that is growing in popularity. Sports car racing has always been a popular spectator sport, but not people can take part in it as well.

If you have never raced a sports car before, there are some things that you ought to know about it first, so here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your racing event:

At the starting line, a novice should not push the accelerator pedal to the floor, because these cars are extremely powerful and you can easily lose control of the vehicle if you are not used to it.

More experienced drivers should use full acceleration without exceeding the maximum engine revolutions per minute, because that could damage the engine; ease off the clutch slowly until it is fully engaged.

You should be close to maximum driving speed on the long straights, but always be very heedful of your steering because it is easy to lose control at high speed where the slightest twitch of the steering wheel has a lot of effect on the course of the car. Beginners should always endeavor to keep both hands on the steering wheel at the ten and two o? clock positions.

In some cars, steering can also be achieved through acceleration and deceleration, although this has largely been compensated for by the use of differential locks. If the engineers allow this type of steering, speeding up pulls the car to the outside edge of track and deceleration draws it to the inside. Learning how to control this attribute minimizes the necessity to use the steering wheel.

There are two ways of taking turns: slowly and sharply. A slow turn makes use of the outside of the track and is the easier of the two techniques. Beginners ought to start with this method. Tight or sharp bends makes use of the inside of the track and are not easy manoeuvres involving combined use of the accelerator, the steering wheel and the brake.

Ease off the throttle as you approach the turn until you are travelling at a speed that you can cope with and then accelerate out of the turn from about halfway through it.

You should always analyse your race after the event and make notes on your performance. Endeavor to have your race filmed if possible so that you can study the lines that you took. Pay close attention to how you took the turns and your lines through them. Did you accelerate smoothly or did you accelerate in bursts?

It is better to concentrate on improving your own modus operandi than to keep attempting to beat others. If you concentrate on your own performance, you will improve it more rapidly than if you just concentrate on beating your opposition. Keep in mind that when you are travelling at great speeds, small adjustments can make big differences, this also applies to minor changes in your method.

Why I Live In Thailand

By Owen Jones

After my first night out in Pattaya, Thailand, when I met a woman on a blind date organized by one of my best friends, I sat up in bed and I recalled the details of the evening before. We had started in The Pig and Whistle, where I was staying on Soi 7. The Pig is a nice, calm, sedate, air-conditioned oasis of tranquility in a street, which is one of the liveliest, noisiest and busiest streets in Pattaya.

We went outside into the soi and into a stream of people not unlike that of a queue heading for a football match, except that all the women were dressed in bikinis. We had called into one of those outdoor bars, where my friend had a surprise waiting for me. His girlfriend of a while, whom I knew nothing about and a friend of hers who wanted to meet me. The four of us had dallied there an hour before walking the thirty metres to Beach Road. The traffic is one-way on Beach Road, so we took a Baht Taxi North going with the flow and got off two or three kilometres further on just before Walking Street, which is the most well-known street in Pattaya.

We had entered a complex of bars and sat at one at random. It was only then that I realized that the bars were all set out around a Muay Thai boxing ring, where the fighting was continuous and free, although foreigners are expected to contribute a prize to the winner of each bout; 20-100 Baht suffices.

We stayed there an hour and moved on to Walking Street to eat. We ate at a seafood specialist restaurant which has a pier or jetty as its dining area. The food was fantastic and the mood was romantic with the moon reflecting on the sea and the atmospheric lighting.

I don't believe I had had a chance really, I fell for my gorgeous date that night and I saw her every day for the rest of my 30 days holiday. We had a wonderful time and when I had to go, I resolved to find out if I could live in Thailand. I went home and worked out, that if I was careful and a few things fell in my favour, I would most likely have enough money to live there for ten years.

Six weeks later, I returned to Thailand and Joy was waiting for me at the airport. Nothing had altered between us and we caught a bus to go to see her family in northern Thailand. We slept in a room that her brother had given up for us and everyone made me feel very welcome. Joy's family live in a traditional teak house built on stilts and everybody lived and slept in one room in the traditional way, except for Joy's brother, who had built an extension, because he was hoping to get married soon.

I love that village and still live there now, five years later. Joy and I are married and have our own home - a traditional, European, concrete-block bungalow not five metres from Joy's mum, who is a brilliant mother-in-law. Her family appear to realize what a big step it was for me to come here alone and are determined to be there for me, if I need assistance, like my own family in Britain would be. The task at hand is learning Thai as no one else in the village, except for my wife, speaks English.

Beach Vacations: San Elijo Beach Camping In San Diego

By Randy Kalp

Whether you are a budget backpacker, on a family vacation, or just want to sleep next to the Pacific Ocean, the San Elijo State Beach Campground is the perfect place for your San Diego vacation.

The campground has a store, surfboard rentals and a surf school, it also has a taco shop. Additionally, the quaint beach town Cardiff-by-the-Sea is just a crosswalk away from the campground. Traveling with your dog? There is a bar right outside the campground called The Office, which allows pets.

This campground is situated on a cliff overlooking the ocean and is perfect for swimming, surfing or sunset walks on the beach. The only downside to the campground is its proximity to the commuter train, which runs until about 1 a.m. and always blasts its horn as it arrives in the area; the closer your campsite is to the ocean, the more the waves will muffle the train sounds.

Camping at San Elijo State Beach is an affordable way to travel to San Diego on a budget. Here is the price list: $35/inland site; $50/ocean site; $20 a day for electricity (not all sites have hookups); $12 a day for an additional car (yes a trailer is a car), showers $1 for 3 minutes. The campground fills up during summer, spring break and holidays, so reservations are required. Winter months are slower and the campground rarely fills up.

When considering a $35 site, I highly recommend choosing one in the middle of the campground; instead, of a spot located along the back fence. The later sites are fine if you have no other options, but they are a bit to close to the road and train tracks for my liking.

The San Elijo Campground is definitely one of the more social San Diego state beach campgrounds. So, if you want to hang out, meet people and maybe have a BBQ with your neighbor by the beach, then this is the place. Generally, people seem to be younger and much more social here. There are also more kids and younger families.

Playing In The Best Indoor Playgrounds And Attractions

By Adriana Noton

Playing in the best attractions and indoor playgrounds can be lots of fun and there are many to choose from if one is living in the Greater Toronto Area. There are so many things to do especially if one is free in the summer. Many of these locations are scattered throughout the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) so it is easy to find a place that is close to where you live.

In the summer, it is quite common to see lots of young people in these indoor playgrounds spending most of their time having fun. This is particularly true when the weather is poor outside. When there is nothing to do at home, the best place to be is in a facility where there are lots of games and attractions.

One of the most popular things to do is play video games. The really good centers have lots of video games and a wide variety of them. One of the most popular one are those that have car racing. There are quite a few that allow a person to play with a partner. This is one of the reasons why so many young people go to these attractions with their friends.

A good facility will have lots of space so that people of different ages, like parents and their children, can come and find what they are looking for. This means that there is lots of room for many people to come in and spend some time, which is good for business. There are also lots of games and attractions that one can find.

Another great thing about these centers is that it is a way to bring the entire family together. There is something available for everyone, even the toddlers. For the little ones, there are slides and places to crawl through. For the older kids there are other attraction like the video games that they can play. There are games for the adults as well.

Some areas have bowling which is another way that everyone can have fun. There are are other activities like Go-Carts where one has to where a helmet to protect their head. This is another great way to have fun with the entire family. This is especially helpful if one has older children and young people in their homes who can play these games.

Is food served at an indoor playground? - Food is served at many indoor playgrounds and this is a place where many families might spend their day. If one has a party that they want to hold, they would usually cater the food. The type of food that is served is usually the kind that is easy to walk around with. However, there are usually seating areas where groups can sit and spend time together as well.

Playing in the best attractions and indoor playgrounds can be great for young people as there is lots to do when there is no school. One can play with their friends and find games that are suited to their age group. It is also a good way for families to have a good time with each other. What Are Two Of The Best Vacations Packages In The World?

By Adriana Noton

Many travel offers are usually around when summer is near and spring is nigh. And of course in order to get the needed customers one would always see the word best in the marketing materials. However one may start to think what destinations can qualify to make up the best vacations packages in the world, especially for us Canadians?

Though we all might have an idea of what makes up a good travel package we are not experts. We still do need a good travel agent. A good travel agent will be invaluable in fixing you up with a good deal and destination.

And one of the travel destinations and packages that the agent may offer you will be the sunny climes of Antigua and Barbuda. As Canadians may want to get away from the cold climate at home, these Caribbean islands are a great attraction and continue to grow in popularity. Plenty of packages offer 8 night offerings with good standard hotel accommodations or private bungalows. Not only that, but the islands will let you bask in the history of the old British Empire and the anti piracy operations of Sir Horatio Nelson of ages past.

Plenty of land and water activities abound should one tire of historical plantations and cultural enrichment activities. One can choose to bike, hike or even hunt and also available are activities for deep sea fishing, diving, snorkeling, boating and kayaking. Wind surfers will also enjoy the year round prevailing winds. Those who may have a hard time choosing what to do can take advantage of the availability of diverse day cruises and excursions.

Canadians who may not have the sun and sand taste and pt for a more urban feel may consider the city of Las Vegas. Trips are offered on 4 to 7 days package and Vegas is always a great short excursion destination. Las Vegas is definitely a place that can offer excitement to those who would want all the urban comforts and amenities.

As Las Vegas is also in the North American Continent, its proximity to Canada makes it a cheaper destination to go to as well for airfare would not be so expensive. Accommodations are always top notch and will not always cost the traveler an arm and a leg. Cuba vacation packages have also been increasingly popular amongst Canadians in the past few years and one can definitely find a Canadian travel agent who may have few excellent suggestions.

Do not however think that Las Vegas is all pure gambling as one sees on the television. For those who do not want to spend nights at the wheel or slots, plenty of other exciting activities can be had as well that does not involve gambling. The city in fact has plenty of theaters, bars and restaurants that are open 24 hours to cater to everyone.

Like Tokyo, the city is all lit up at night and is a sight to behold. When the temperatures cool and the sun goes down is when the excitement really begins with the many street side performances and shows, stage plays, concerts and stage shows that many can enjoy for free. Vegas is a definite must have in a great and best vacations package.

A Vacation In The Canary Islands

By Thomson Day

A vacation in the Canary Islands is something that is usually seen in glossy tourist brochures, but not very often in reality. Sub-tropical weather offers sunny weather throughout the year here, along with warm and spectacular beaches and the sparkling Atlantic Ocean. This, however, is just one part of what's on offer for visitors, and there is so much to do and see.

The archipelago is under Spanish control and a part of the EU although it is located just off Morocco and the African mainland. Many millions of visitors from Europe visit here each year, and it has become a tourist haven. The most popular destinations here that get the lion's share of visitors include Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife.

Most visitors will be arriving here by plane, and landing at the airport on either Tenerife or Gran Canaria. Island hopping is easy with all the ferries, and if necessary by plane. The cities and towns on each island are quite well connected and modern (by African standards).

For those looking at a beach holiday, Tenerife is probably the best choice. It has a volcanic past, and has beaches that offer both black sand and the usual golden sand. Tourists will find some very good resorts to make the most of the island's many beaches and attractions. Visitors can enjoy many European style street cafes and restaurants offering seafood. Whale watching and big game fishing are popular activities too.

For those looking at a beach resort, Gran Canaria too has plenty on its southern side. As a bonus, the island is famous for its surf with huge waves crashing in to the north. The south has plenty of surfing spots too, along with schools where tourists can learn to surf. Golfers will also enjoy the island's collection of golf courses and the oldest Golf Club in Spain.

Lanzarote is a special tourist destination, and is especially attractive to visitors from the UK looking for a vacation in the Canary Islands. Lanzarote even sets its time according to the time in London. It has a nice coastline with beautiful beaches, the famous Timanfaya National Park that offers visitors a tour of the island's volcanic past, and many fine museums.

Packing for a summer holiday - 5 top tips

By Bethany J. Todd

Holidays are supposed to be about kicking back and taking it easy. But before you can lie by the beach or go for a walk through a seaside town there's something you have to get out of the way - packing. There's no getting away from it, but there are a few simple tips that will lead to easy and successful holiday packing, leaving you to focus on foreign lands and lazy days.

While it's not really a packing tip you should start by tying a ribbon around your suitcase. As it's probably black it'll be blending in with 99% of the suitcases also going around the carousel rack. It's not as garish as buying something with a zebra print but will give the same effect of allowing you to locate your luggage quickly. If you still can't locate your luggage it's probably been lost - not to worry though, because if you use a luggage tracker (easily found online) it will be found in next to no time.

As far as packing goes it is useful to make a list of things you absolutely must bring with you on holiday. This should consist of things like medication, tickets and passports to go in hand luggage. For stored luggage, essentials will differ between different people. Some will need straighteners and a hairdryer - but many hotels will be able to offer you a hairdryer. Finding this out in advance will give you extra space to pack what you need.

Everyone is aware of how strict airport security is now, so it's important to remember that should you be bringing creams, gels or liquids on board in hand luggage that they do not exceed 100ml and are in a clear, sealable plastic bag - precise requirements and more detailed security details can be found on the appropriate airports website.

And just a final word of advice: make sure you're not going over your luggage limit - either by weight or number of items allowed. Certain airlines charge for storing luggage and have maximum weight allowances. It's always wise to check what your limits are so you don't end up facing any fines. With this in mind you should be able to take the stress out of packing and focus on enjoying a well-earned holiday.

What To Look For In A Limo Service In San Jose CA

By Nelda Rich

Everybody wants to have that touch of sophistication during those special celebrations. No wonder the limo service San Jose has gained increasing popularity among the public nowadays. Fair enough, the city is home to a very vast freeway that can only take pride of pricey vehicles going to and fro the streets. For interested individuals, there are some things they have to look for when looking for a limousine service.

The number of rental shops for limos has indeed grown in the past years due to the growing demand from the public. For this reason, it has also become hard for clients to choose among a pool of leasers. Looking for the one with the longest experience in the industry might be the best. They can guarantee excellent services and expertise when it comes to automobiles like limousines.

One way of determining how wide the scope of the shop is to see how much they spend for advertising their services. Some go as far as invading the internet, the papers, magazines and practically any type of media. The more you see the ads coupled with testimonies, the more probability that the shop is of good standing because of their wide range of services.

The shop should offer promos and packages that even middle-class people can enjoy. Since limousines have been attached to words like luxury and class, it is no doubt the renting price could be considerable. But there are certain conditions that would allow clients to spend less for more in the form of packages.

Because there are several types of limousines from bigger ones like hummers and party vans to smaller ones like Sedans, the shop should completely explain about the pros and cons of each. Moreover, clients should determine beforehand what they really need including details such as the number of people riding and the kind of occasion to be celebrated.

The company should be known for the safety measures they take to maintain their vehicles. Since automobiles can wear out, they need fixing and sometimes, refurbishing to enhance the features of the vehicles. There are newer breeds of limos now that incorporate higher end facilities and this should be what shops strive to have in their own set of vehicles.

The booking procedure should be convenient. In fact, there are many of those people who find online registration forms if they wish to avail of a particular limousine for a certain occasion. The staff should quickly respond if the preference of the client is no longer available so clients can make another choice. This is part of good customer service.

The staff of the company, especially the drivers, in any limo service San Jose should be polite in handling their clients. Nobody would be happy with rude servicing. Thus, it is important they maintain open communication lines for clients who wish to complain or provide suggestions. This would allow for a two-way agreement between the client and the rental shop.

Ethnic Hair Care And Beauty Products Have Gained New Attention

By Velma Joseph

Recent decades have seen an increase in the attention given to ethnic hair care and beauty products, as many companies have learned more about how various ethnic groups have differing product needs. Though many product lines still emphasize the challenges facing black women, other people of color are now being catered to as well.

In fact, these groups now spend several billions dollars each year as they try to manage brittle curls and the complexion difficulties that tend to plague many blacks, Hispanics, and Asians. Each of these groups has its own reasons for needing special product offerings that differ dramatically from what had previously been offered by the beauty industry.

Caring for skin

Moisture levels in the skin are a particular area of concern for women of color. Many experience problems with moisture balance, which can result in skin that appears to be the color of ash or that has seriously high levels of oil. Skin spots and discoloration can result from an imbalance in the level of melanin in these women's skin, and can only be countered with ongoing facial treatments.

Many product formulas focus on natural oils to moisturize skin, acids to eliminate the ashy appearance, and various skin lighteners to even out skin tone. Skin lightening is especially important for those groups that have problems with facial spots and general irregularities in skin tone.

For healthy follicles

It comes as no surprise to most people that ethnic hair is a special concern, particularly for black women whose natural curls are often dry and easy to break. Many women resort to straightening regimens, but the heat used in that process can often exacerbate dryness. The key to good follicle health lies in a consistent regimen of care that focuses on the right problems.

In this case, that dryness is the result of the curls. Normally, natural oil would flow from the scalp to the follicles. Because the curls trap the oil, the ends of the curls end up devoid of the moisture they need. To counter this, these product offerings use natural moisturizers as well as various conditioning agents.

The fact is that these women deserve to have the best hair and skin that they can possibly get. To achieve that goal, many women spend many months of trial and error in the search for the best product line for their individual needs. Though it can take time for these women to find the ideal ethnic hair care and beauty products that they need, that effort is well worth the time.

Ideas On How To Have An Enjoyable And Perfect Camping Trip

By Louis Hayward

There are lots of things that you can enjoy on a camping trip. It is a great way for getting closer to your family and friends and can help to relieve any stresses of the mode day life. But there are certain things that you should be aware of before planning any sort of camping trip. It is important to know what type of food to take with you and of course what equipment you may need.

If you are planning to go out into the wilderness away from any for of human life then taking the right food with you is even more important as you will not have access to any convenience stores out there. Food that requires little preparation and which are easily cleaned up afterwards are ideal for these sorts of trips.

Take food with you that you know will last. It is no good taking fresh food that can go off quickly if it is not kept in some sort of cooler.

This is okay if you plan on bringing a cooler with you on the trip. Any form of perishable food will have to be eaten first or you will just have to throw it away when it goes off. Try to stay clear of frozen poultry or meat on this trip too along with frozen vegetables as they can take a long time to cook and the end result does not always taste very nice afterwards.

If you do the planning well in advance and list the foods that you are taking and their methods of cooking then you should not have any problems. One easy solution could be to bring along something simple such as oatmeal.

What is easier than throwing some oatmeal into a pot of boiling water then adding a little flavoring? You have a quick breakfast waiting for you which can set you up for the rest of the day.

If you plan to use the natural water around you for washing the dishes or drinking then remember to boil it first and to add a few purification tablets to prevent any bacteria. Bottled water may be a better option. You could take along some dish soap to clean the plates and dishes after meals or just take some wipes which would be easier.

Just remember to plan ahead and follow these guidelines and there is no reason why you should not have a good camping trip and come back fully refreshed.

Tips for renting a car in Iceland

By Randy Kalp

The cheapest way to explore Iceland is by renting a car. Renting a car in Iceland doesn't have to blow your budget, and while its not cheaper than hitchhiking, it definitely gives you more freedom at a cheaper cost. Especially, when compared to the tourist sightseeing tours available at the tourist information centers. The six tips below will help you save money on your car rental in Iceland.

Check online: Often the best deals on Iceland rental cars can be found online. We are able to cut the cost by nearly half by booking our rental car through Hertz.com; instead, of renting it from a tourist center. It was also cheaper to book it online compared to renting the car in person from Reykjavik. One of the cheapest rental car companies we found was SADcars.com. If you book online through their website, they offer a 15% discount.

Rent your car from Keflavik Airport: There are two ways from the airport to Reykjavik, which is about an hour away. Either you can pay approximately $50 round trip for the shuttle bus or you can put that money towards a rental car.

Keep your vehicle longer: The price of the rental car dramatically decreases the longer you book it for.

Say no to theft insurance: Our Hertz agent told us that the vehicle theft insurance they offer is not necessary. According to him car thefts in Iceland are not common.

Factor in the gas: Gas is expensive in Europe, and that holds true for Iceland, too. Expect to pay about $5 per gallon. And remember, gas is sold by the liter not the gallon.

The off-season: In Iceland, Sept. 1 kicks off the start of the low tourist season. During this time car rentals in Iceland become cheaper than during the summer months. The cost of a rental car in the low season can be more than 50% cheaper.

A Cheap Way to Become A Tequila Connoisseur

By Randy Kalp

Besides knowing what the kitchen staff at my old restaurant likes--Cazadores, the one with the horns on it--and that the free shots of tequila passed out at Tijuana nightclubs reek havoc on my stomach, my knowledge of tequila is very limited.

I have had good tequila, well, I guess okay tequila before (nothing over $7 a shot). And like most hard alcohol, it seems better the quality, the easier the alcohol goes down. But I'd like to know more about it, especially since I can import it myself directly from Mexico. (U.S. Customs allows one litre of tequila to be brought through the border crossing.) Unfortunately, the road to tequila connoisseurship is expensive. Or is it?

During one weekend out of the year, you can gain your tequila connoisseur badge for as much as a bottle of the award winning El Agave Reposado Tequila ($32) costs. Each October, San Diego's sultry sister to the south plays host to the Tijuana Tequila Festival and Expo. For $30 you can grab a day tour from downtown San Diego to the expo on Avenida Revolucion. The price of the tour includes round trip transportation to the festival, two shots of free tequila on the ride down and expo admission, which equates to the free, unlimited sampling of more than 100 tequilas. And I'm willing to bet that if you sample that much tequila, you will be-at least for the rest of the evening-one confident connoisseur.

Hold it now! Didn't you just say it was $32?

Good, you are paying attention. Yes, I've budgeted in the extra $2 for the three for $1 street tacos that fill Tijuana's corridors. Sliced fresh from a rotating beef slab, these tacos are ideal for soaking up cheap and mediocre tequila, as for expensive tequila, well after spending an all-nighter enjoying the Tijuana nightlife, you'll just have to keep me posted.

If you are looking for more information about the event and tour, check out the Tijuana Tequila Expo.

The Joys Of Motorhome Vacations Across America

By Wendy Tartine

If you want a total sense of freedom in your travels then motorhome a vacation across America will provide just this. You can travel from one side of the country to another in absolute comfort and flexibility and you will not have to be burdened or concerned with things such as flight cancellations, train delays, and other problems that may stand in the way of regular travel.

Of course a second bonus that you will notice will be the huge financial savings that you will make. For example, you won't have to bother with additional accommodation or taxi fares. The actual cost of travelling around in a motorhome will be a lot lower than taking flights or train journeys.

Furthermore, with so many parks where you can hitch up your motorhome all over the country you will have an unrivalled freedom to explore America at your leisure. Once you have found somewhere suitable you can explore the surrounding area and get to know other parts of the country much more intimately.

While some people may sing the virtues of caravans, motor homes provide significant benefits over these for several reasons. The most this is the fact that they are a lot easier to transport. Caravans can be dangerous on the road and very slow when commuting from one point to another. This makes longer journeys across America a lot more difficult and will somewhat limit your travelling potential.

However, you do need to think about the price of the motorhome that you buy. It is likely to be a lot more expensive than a caravan and insurance prices and fuel costs will be more expensive as a result.

However, if it is complete convenience that you are after then a motorhome will be your best bet. Regardless of whether you are using it for a long seasonal break, a multi-stop journey, or for permanent living, it will provide you with everything you need.

Lightweight Suitcases - 5 Tips For Packing Lightweight Suitcases

By Jessica Wray

When you pack your lightweight suitcases for a trip, it's not what you pack, but how you pack that matters. Follow some of these tips to help you pack your suitcase so that it doesn't cause you undue stress during your trip.

Pack As Lightly As Possible -- Managing many more items than you need for a trip can be just as stressful, if not more, than if you had brought too few items. The next time you pack, place everything you want to bring on your bed or on a table. Then remove half of what you have out. Another thing to do is to make sure you have plenty of time to pack up, as we tend to overpack when in a time crunch and in a hurry.

Avoid Filling Your Case To Bursting -- The TSA conducts some random inspections of checked luggage. If it's your case that is pulled and checked, then you want to make sure it goes through as easily as possible. Having a case full to bursting makes it harder to inspect and to close afterwards, so avoid overpacking your case. Also, if you fill a case too fully and it ends up being inspected, some of the loose items in the case can fall out and become lost.

Roll Your Clothing And Save Space -- To save some space and prevent wrinkles, roll your clothing instead of folding it. And if you roll shirts, pants, and other things you want to wear together in the same roll, it also makes your outfits easier to pull out of your suitcase.

Stuff Socks And Underwear In Your Extra Shoes -- There is a lot of space wasted by packing shoes with nothing stuffed into them. Also, if you don't want your suitcase opened for a security inspection with all of your personal things laying visible, then putting them in your shoes may make you feel more comfortable.

Use Small Toiletries -- According to the TSA, each passenger is limited to 3 ounces each of liquid, gel, and aerosol toiletries, stored in containers enclosed in a single 1 quart plastic bag. Because of this limit, bring as few toiletries as possible in small containers. Many different travel size products are available so you don't have to go through the trouble of filling empty containers with soap and shampoo. Or, even better, if you are staying in a hotel, take advantage of those toiletries and leave yours at home. You won't have to worry about packing it or about bringing it back with you at the end of your trip, either.

The guide below will give you a good look into Icelandic culture without blowing your budget while traveling in Reykjavik.

The National Museum of Iceland: It's all here. Everything that our school textbooks failed to mention about Iceland is in this museum. The Making of Nation is the permanent exhibition at the museum. A combination of photography and artifacts dating from the Settlement Age to the Present, including Bjork's first LP, the exhibition showcases Iceland's cultural heritage. Additionally, the museum also holds temporary exhibitions. Free on Wednesdays, the museum can be completed in a few hours, but like any museum, the longer you stay the more you will take away. The complex also offers free WiFi and has a cafe.

Nautholsvik Beach: Geothermal water is pumped into two hot pots (large Jacuzzis) and into the bay. A seawall surrounding the lagoon helps to keep the cold sea water out of the swimming area. The lagoon's temperature is usually around 68 degrees (it's not Hawaii, but definitely fun for a quick dip). In addition to the hot-pots, the complex at beach has changing rooms as well as cafe for beverages and snacks. Admission to the beach and facilities is free; though, a small fee is charged for lockers. The beach is open from May 15 to Aug. 31.

Hallgrimskirkja Church (Church of Hallgrimur): For less than a pint of beer in a Reykjavik pub, you can experience the capital city's version of New York's Empire State Building. Rising 244 feet above Reykjavik, the church's observation deck, has no competition. Views from the deck offer panoramas of the city, bay and distant mountains. The church, which boasts a minimalist concrete design with clean lines and one heck of a pipe organ, is free; however, the observation deck costs about $4.50 to visit.

Free Walk of Reykjavik Tour: The tour departs daily at 1 p.m. from My Reykjavik, Austurstrti 6, during the summer (May 1 to September 15) rain or shine with no minimum number of guests needed. Due to limited numbers, there is no longer a free winter tour. While the tour is free, the guides do work for tips-500 krona (less than $5) is a reasonable tip. The 90 minute guided tour through Reykjavik is a great way to get acquainted with Iceland's capital city. Great storytelling and an insider's look into Reykjavik's past, present and future are all hallmarks of this easy walking tour. Because the tour is sponsored by GoEcco, there is some cross promotion for the company's other city tours, but it is nothing that cheapens the experience.

Laugardalslaug Thermal Pool: Like the U.S. Post Office, the outdoor pool operates in all weather conditions. The complex, which borders the Reykjavik Campsite, contains a 50-meter pool, two water slides, an outdoor children's pool, numerous hot pots, a thermal steam bath, indoor gym and, just for good measure, a mini-golf course (weather permitting). An all day pass to the complex costs approximately $2.50 (the locker rental is included in the price). Hailed as the city's largest geothermal pool, the facility is a perfect example of why swimming is a national sport in Iceland despite its proximity to the Arctic Circle.

Paris Metro: Money Saving Tips For The City's Subway

By Randy Kalp

Traveling on the Paris subway system (Le Metro) is an excellent way to explore the city on the cheap. And like many popular destinations, Paris offers a tourist card called Paris Visite Carte, but as we found out it may not be the cheapest way to ride the city's subway.

Sure, the Paris Visite Card maybe the easiest way to start using the Paris Metro, but that doesn't necessarily mean its the most budget friendly. Depending on what day of the week you arrive in Paris, and how long you are staying, a better (cheaper) option maybe to purchase the weekly or monthly pass known as Passe Navigo Decouverte, which is only available through RATP/SNCF ticket windows in the subway and at train stations. One of the main differences between the two passes, is that the Paris Visite Card is valid from the first day of use, while the Passe Navigo Decouverte takes effect at the start of each week or month.

Except for Disneyland and Versailles, Paris' famous sights and attractions can be found inside subway zones 1 and 2. Check out the fare chart below to see the different price categories for the Paris' Metro and subway passes. All prices are in Euros.

Tickets (Individual)

One ticket 1.70

Book of 10 tickets 12.00

Single-use ticket purchased on a bus 1.80

Paris Visite Carte

Zones 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day

1-3 9.30 15.20 20.70

1-6 19.60 29.90 41.90

* A perk to the Paris Visite Card is that the tourist pass can be used for discounts for various sightseeing tours and attractions in the city, for example, 20-40% admission discounts to Arc de Triomphe, the Opera House and the Pantheon.

Le Metro Pass Navigo Decouverte

Zones Week Month

1 - 2 17.20 56.60

1 - 3 22.70 74.40

1 - 4 27.90 91.70

1 - 5 33.40 109.90

1 - 6 37.60 123.60

*It cost an additional one-time 5 euro fee to obtain the Paris' Navigo Pass. In addition, A passport size photo, which you can supply or purchase from a photo booth near the ticket window for 4 euro , is also required for your Paris weekly or monthly Navigo Pass, which is transferable between your Paris' Navigo Pass.

Considered one of the most efficient transit systems in the world, I highly recommend picking up one of the passes for your Paris travels.

Most Popular Sports Bars In Phoenix

By Adele Bolton

There are definitely distinct advantages in heading to the nearest sports bars Phoenix has to offer. First, you won't have to watch a game alone in your home. Second, you can enjoy bottles of cold beer while watching a game. And third, you won't have to make the snacks yourself. You can enjoy all these privileges when you go to a sport bar, you'll know you did the right thing.

If fans yearn for pizza, they can head to Santisi Brothers Pizzeria and Sport Grill. This place was founded in 1996 by Santisi brothers. They designed this bar to be a quintessential sport bar which houses over 115 flat screen TVs. When there isn't a game on, a person can lounge at the bar and sip a few cocktails and slices of pizza. Their menu features Italian pasta cuisine and New Yorker flavored pizzas.

If public singing is what fans crave, then they can head to Marc's Sport Grill and Nightlife. Hitting the bar before jumping on stage to do karaoke is a common phenomena inside a bar. Sitting back and enjoying a Laker's game with a cold bottle of beer in one hand and a plate of fish and chips in the other can also be done.

Hazelwood's First Place Sport Grill is named for a reason. It is one of the first to introduce sport watching, food consumption, alcohol drinking and karaokeing in a single place. Customers are given the choice to enjoy dinner while watching a Yankees game or playing a game of pool by the patio. Fans can even have the pleasure of karaoke after watching the game or after a few drunken shots of Mojitos Tequila.

El Dorado Bar and Grill is the typical local bar. It has a number of flat screens attuned to almost all sporting events in the state. They have a long list of local and imported beers to choose from, aside from the normal liquor. They also have a weekly feature of a live band and a DJ to satisfy thank-God-its-Friday party goers.

A bar that seems to be a sport museum is Don and Charlie's. Housing more than a hundred sign jerseys and over two hundred signed baseballs among other sport paraphernalia, the main feature of the bar is its museum like display. In fact, their collection of sport artifacts are sure to entice jealousy among many sport fans.

This place is considered more of a restaurant than a sport bar due to its clothed tables, fine dining menu and banquet services. But they have a bar counter where happy hour goers can lounge and drink cocktail while waiting for a game to start.

It would be a good idea if people experienced the many different sports bars Phoenix can offer. Not only are they good places to watch games, they can also be your stepping stone to having fun and socializing.

What Can Be Needed In Moving Residence

By Adriana Noton

Finding the right house to move to is exciting, but once you have bought it you need to get organized. There is the packing to be done and organizing the removals. Letting the utility companies know then a final clean of your old house and a first clean of your new house. Say goodbye to your old house as you hand over the keys before moving to your new house to unpack. Call some friends and invite them to help you, in exchange for food and drink.

If you are going to be organized throughout your move a list is a good idea. When a job is done it can be crossed out, letting you move onto the next one. If you have roped in a team of helpers a list of jobs with their names against them can help to keep everyone on track.

Packing requires lots of boxes and tape, marker pens and padding for delicate items. Mark each box as you pack it, with the name of the room you would like it in, so it goes in the right place in the new house. The less directing the movers need the sooner you can begin to unpack.

If you do not want to pack up your own house you could consider a removal company who will do it for you. They will provide the boxes and other packaging materials and offer insurance to cover any damages. If however you have only a few things to move, you may be able to do the removal yourself with a hire van and some friends.

It is sometimes the case that within the documentation of sale of the house, you are requested to leave the utilities on. Ring your providers and let them know that you are changing address and make sure that your payments are up to date.

When leaving a house, unless it is to be demolished, it is good to clean it one last time. This lets you check for any forgotten items that might have been left around. It is also nice for the new tenant or owners to come into a clean house. More than likely though, even if you move into a house that has been thoroughly cleaned you will probably clean it again as you unpack.

If you marked the boxes when you packed they should be in the right rooms for unpacking. This will allow you to start with the most needed rooms; bathroom, kitchen and bedrooms. Take out the rubbish as you go and when you unpack the last room you will be able to rest instead of having to go back to deal with rubbish.

If you have plenty of friends willing to help, why not buy some food and drink and have a packing party and an unpacking party at the other end. This will shorten the time spent packing and give you more time for the unpacking party at the new house.

Organize your friends and family to help you pack and a removals team to transport your possessions to your new house. Then all you need to do is telling the utility companies of your move and a last clean of the house for its new owners. Maybe you can combine unpacking in your new house with a moving in party.
