What should you be packing in your beach bag?

By Alex Dunlop

Having an inclusive beach bag is vital when taking a beach holiday. This is not only important for protecting your fun, but also for making sure you do not take any unnecessary health risks associated with being on a beach. It is also important that you choose the right bag to hold these vital items. The following paragraphs are dedicated to the ins and outs of packing the perfect beach bag.

Picking the right beach bag is the first thing you should be doing. Keep in mind the extreme conditions that beach bags are exposed to, such as the rough hot sand, the wet salty sea and the unrelenting sunshine. Because of these conditions, you should pick a bag that is durable, so that it won't break and risk losing your belongings. The size is important too if you are going to fit everything in.

Now that you have the right bag, you should make sure you have your safety covered. The most obvious thing to take is high factor sun cream. Though many people choose lower factor options in pursuit of the perfect tan, it should be kept in mind that these need to be reapplied more regularly, and you should think about taking higher factor anyway, just in case. Take a first aid pack with plasters, insect repellent and bite cream. To protect your eyes from the sun, you should also take sunglasses.

Now you can get on with packing the fun stuff. No one wants to go to the beach without having a swim, so make sure you don't forget your swimming clothes and a towel. You could also get a good look at the local sea life by taking some goggles and snorkels. It might be a sensible idea to buy a waterproof capsule so you can take your most valuable belonging swimming with you.

Now you should pack some form of entertainment. Young kids especially may not be partial to lying around on the beach all day. Taking a lot of books and magazines is a good option; you'll be surprised just how much you can read in a single day by the sea.
