We all know teens are part kid trying to be an adult. Because they change almost daily, picking a camp long ahead of the summer may be more challenging for a teen. January is a good time to start your search. The best programs can fill soon, so try to bring up the topic as soon as possible so you can start your search.

So how do you start? Start your search for a summer program with the internet. Pick a few camps that you like. Then sit down and talk with your child. Working together finding camp is a way to strengthen your relationship with your child. This is an opportunity to discuss with your teenager his interests, concerns, and values. You need to talk with your teen about what each of you want the summer to be. But be ready to Listen...even if they "don't want to do anything." Then suggest the few that you have already found.

Teen programs are everywhere and you want to make sure you pick the right one for you and your child. Be persistent. Sometimes you have to really look hard to find the right answer. The internet is a very useful tool for this. But it is helpful to know if your thinking serving, traveling, adventure or a little of all. Not sure f it has all your looking for? Be sure to check in with the camp director.

Now you child is not very agreeable with your ideas. So lets piece together the summer with activities from your list and your teenagers. This may be as easy but still a compromise is better than no summer camp experience.

In the end, you cant get your teenager to leave home, it is important to set some summer rules, expectation, chores, and schedules, otherwise it may be a miserable summer for all.

One place to look is Swift Nature Camp. They have a unique teen summer camp opportunity that allows teens to make friends in a relaxed and fun-filled environment. They build self-esteem, independence, and challenge themselves with new physical and emotional heights. Jeff Lorenz, Director of Swift Nature Camp, "We realize teenagers want to do things for themselves and are bored by a normal camp. So we provide an Teen Adventure Camp" This gives teens many opportunities go out into the wild and see the Apostle Islands, go to the International Wolf Center or find themselves canoeing down the Mississippi River. Lastly and most important time as a teen is limited and as parents we must do all we can to help children enjoy the last few years before becoming a full fledged adult. Have a great summer!
