A Traveler's Guide To Whistler Blackcomb

By Jose Lopez

Canada has one of the best skiing destinations throughout the world - the Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort. Winter season in these mountains is about to end, it's true. Winter related activities will end this April for Whistler Mountain and on June for Blackcomb. Even so, tourists can still enjoy outdoor activities that don't need all that snow - such as trekking, hiking, and zip lining. Thus, going there right now won't be a waste unless you're only looking forward to skiing and other winter activities, that is.

The Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort is located west of Canada, along the coastal mountains of British Columbia. It is two hours north of Vancouver and two to five hours away if you're from Seattle. The drive from Vancouver city requires you to pass Highway 99 which is otherwise known as the Sea To Sky Highway. Driving by Highway 99 is said to be Canada's most scenic drive.

You have three options when traveling to Whistler Blackcomb by car - you can drive your own car, take a rental car, or arrange services with a taxi cab. When planning to travel by road in general, you have the additional option of taking a bus. There are three buses that leave for Whistler Blackcomb from Vancouver - YVR Whistler SkyLynx, Ski Express, and Snowbus. Snowbus and Ski Express only operate during the ski resort's peak season which translates to winter time. YVR Whistler SkyLynx operates regardless which time it is of the year, taking you to Whistler Blackcomb's things to do in Canada.

Trains also leave from Vancouver, taking you across wonderful views of Canada's landscape. Train rides from Vancouver usually last for three hours. Booking a Glacier Dome Coach on the train will make it seem that you've had a longer ride as you get to enjoy panoramic views of the Canadian Rockies and its snow capped peaks, wide seascapes, and endless valleys.

There are numerous hotels within and nearby Whistler Blackcomb. The closer they are to the resort's gondolas, the more expensive they are. Cheaper accommodations are merely 30 to 45 minutes away from these gondolas. Dining shouldn't be a problem around Whistler Blackcomb too because there are over 100 restaurants to choose from. These restaurants don't only have variety when it comes to cuisine but they suit different budgets as well.
