In your carry-on luggage, put your emergency information file like passwords, account numbers, and other information that you may need. Save it onto a disk or flash drive and write-protect the document.
Don't pack essential medications or other things into checked luggage, but in your carry-on luggage. Other things that should be packed there include a copy of your passport, change of underwear, reading materials, etc.
After it's packed, taking pictures and itemizing the items in your luggage on a written list is one way to prove it's your luggage. This way, even if your luggage is stolen, you'll be able to prove it's yours by what you've packed. Store these in your carry-on luggage.
