By Eddey P Stonehowse

There are dozens of horrible stories about traveling for vacation. Nine times out of ten, these trips were a disaster due to a lack of proper planning. You will not encounter such difficulties, because you will have availed yourself of the travel tips contained in this piece.

Rather than folding your clothes when you pack them in your suitcase, try rolling them up neatly. This little tip saves you lots of room in your luggage. When you reach your destination, you can simply unroll the clothes and fold them normally if you wish. This efficient packing method means that you can bring fewer bags.

You do not want to wait until you are on a cruise ship to know that you will get seasick. Not knowing can put a huge damper on your plans. Seasickness could lay you up for many days, meaning the cruise you spent your hard-earned money on will not be enjoyed. If you know ahead of time, you can buy the medicine at its normal price and bring it along.

When packing for a trip consider the versatility of the clothing that you are packing. You can wear the same shoes almost every day, while you can probably get 2-3 days of wear out of a blazer before it gets dirty. Doing so can allow you to pack less things for your trip.

Exchange the bulk of your money for foreign currency after you reach your destination. If you won't have immediate access to a currency exchange service when you land, consider exchanging a little money before you leave, then exchanging the rest later on.

Your children should always have some form of identification on them. Give your kids enough cash to call a cab or make a call in an emergency. Parents should have photos of their children, along with weight and height on the back of the photos.

Think of what what be worn multiple times when packing for your trip. For example, sport coats and footwear can be mixed and matched with many outfits. Using an item multiple times for different outfits can cut down on the number of different pieces you need to pack.

When traveling, you must constantly stay alert as to the location of your valuable belongings. Tuck your purse under your arm. Avoid choosing bags that have zippered pockets on the outside. These are easily accessible in crowded areas, so if your bag does have one, it is best to leave it empty. When you are buying a bag keep these things in mind.

If there is hotel room available on a floor that is higher, you should request that one. It may sound deceptively simple, but if you are on the ground floor, potential thieves will have an easier time accessing your room. If possible, request a room without sliding doors for security purposes. These rooms are easier to break into.

Make sure to research the hotels/resorts that you are thinking about staying in, to make sure they will provide the accommodations you desire. Doing this will prevent you from going to a bad hotel or resort, and make your overall travel more enjoyable.

Do not wrap presents before flying to avoid difficulties. It is a waste of time to wrap the presents because the TSA may have to open them anyway during inspections. Simply buy the wrapping materials you need after you have arrived at your destination.

Bottled water is a necessity if you are visiting a foreign country. Unfortunately drinking water in most countries will cause you to get sick because it is not purified. Use bottled water to brush your teeth with. It is possible to get sick from using the water when brushing your teeth.

Use sleeping pills to help you fall asleep on an overnight flight. Some people have a lot of trouble sleeping on planes due to the unfamiliar people, uncomfortable seating, and noise level. Take a mild sleeping pill to get you through the flight. Nothing too strong, but enough to make you drowsy. Never take sleeping pills before your plane is up in the air, there may be a delay or some other unforeseen problem.

Make an effort to have children understand airport security. Before heading to the airport, explain to them what will occur. At the security check, always remain near your child, and if doable, have one of your group's adults go through first so that your child can see how easy it is.

Make sure your dog is easily accustomed to new places if you plan on traveling together. Keep their leash on when you are around others at tourist spots. Responsible pet owners should realize the safety factor inherent in maintaining full control of their pet when traveling.

Arriving the night before is essential. Staying over at a hotel that customarily allows their patrons to leave their vehicles there during their cruise is a smart move. Always ask about parking deals and discounts, even if you don't find any advertised.

Make sure to favor dark clothing when packing for your trip. Dark clothing tends to conceal dirt and wrinkles, both of which are a normal part of extended travel outside of your home environment. You can pair the dark clothing with complementary light-colored accessories to brighten your look.

Be aware that in some foreign cities many criminals will pose as policemen. Keep your passport on you at all times, and do not hand it over to anyone. If you are made to go to an office, do so by foot. In order to stay safe, never ride in a car with someone you don't know.

Book a particular seat, and make your flight more comfortable. Sometimes you can select the area of the plane or even the specific seat you desire. Be aware, though, that there are times when seat selection is not offered. Make sure to take this option if at all possible. You are sure to be happier with a seat of your choice, rather than having to take any seat that is left.
